Born in 1782 to a wealthy local land-owning family, Thomas Read Kemp is without question one of the most important people in the development of Brighton during the Regency and Georgian years. However, his ambitious plans ran into difficulty, and his life of status and privilege was to end prematurely in relative poverty in overseas exile.
