The Day Sussex Died

This year is the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Boars Head which became known as the Day Sussex Died. On the eve of the Battle of the Somme, a lesser known battle was fought by the men of the Royal Sussex Regiment. 11th 12th and 13th Battalions of the Royal Sussex Regiment were raised from volunteers drawn from East and West Sussex - The Southdowners also became known as 'Lowether's Lambs. The talk will describe how the battalion was raised and the events that led to the fateful battle on 30th June 1916.
Graeme is an accredited member of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides and also a volunteer with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
