Talking about the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, its important work and its educational charity, the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation.
This presentation looks at the work of the Commission with a focus on our Archives, and explores both our Casualty Archive and the Commission Archive. It explains how you can research casualties and explains what we record. It will explain how to access the Commission Archives both in person and digitally and highlights some of the documents contained there, explaining their historical significance.

This talk explores the history of several trailblazing female figures in Worthing’s history: from ground-breaking civic developments to dangerous work on the frontlines of the Great War, pioneering artistic work and beyond.

Bob Smytherman was Mayor of Worthing from 2013 to 2014. In 2014 he took the role of Town Crier in the Community Play and then offered to continue the role for the town. He volunteers his services to the Worthing Town Centre Initiative who provide the administration and the upkeep of the regalia and the bell.

A talk about the people who shaped the built environment of our town. It showcases 13 individuals who contributed significantly to the buildings of the past and those still standing and whose influence ensures today.  

All put together with words, music and humour. Finishing up with Victorian animated slides the forerunner of cinema.

Nicholas Oxley and the transcription of his farming diaries from Sussex in the early 1800s. Including the influence of weather across the globe, religion, farm workers, family, crops and much more.

Geoffrey Mead is a  well known local historian and lecturer at the University of Sussex

Ian is a full-time weatherman, broadcaster, author, columnist, speaker and editor of Weather eye magazine. He is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society. Listen to him on BBC Radio Surrey and Sussex giving forecasts to gardeners and growers. Ian correctly forecast the October 1987 storm.

West Sussex at War – To coincide with VE Day, a talk about life for ordinary people during World War II, illustrated with photographs of the time from the West Sussex Record Office’s own collection.

Matthew Jones has been the Assistant County Archivist (Public Access) at the West Sussex Record Office since 2012

Jeremy Prescott served for 26 years as an Army Officer seeing operational service in Dhofar, Oman and 4 tours in Northern Ireland. After retiring from the Army he was appointed as CEO of a charity covering Leics and Rutland which supported rural communities.
