John Kay, a well known local historian, will talk about the life and times of Captain William Green, a military engineer of obscure origins who spent most of his adult life in Sussex in the 18th Century.

It is an understatement to say he had an interesting and varied life.  John will share his research methods and sources.

Local historian, Colin Reid, talks about his latest book which delves into the story of the Worthing typhoid epidemic when over a hundred of the town’s inhabitants died.
In 1893, out of a population of just over 16,000 over 1,400 residents of Worthing and the villages of Broadwater and West Tarring became ill with typhoid and, of those, at least 194 died. Hear how this happened after the sinking a new well for water that became contaminated with sewage. Learn how the town councillors and medical officer of health reacted. Discover how victims of this epidemic were cared for and treated, hear about those who came to the aid of those victims – some paying with their lives and much, much more.
