A Romany Lifestyle

A Romany Lifestyle, presented by Geoff Burch and David Rose, tells the story of Gypsies, travellers and itinerant workers in and around Woking and Guildford in days gone by.

Where they made their camps, their work on farms, market gardens, hop picking, and their ways and traditions.

The talk features personal details and photos from Geoff, whose mother was born into a Gypsy family in Old Woking, as well as David diving historical details with vintage pictures.

Geoff Burch is a retired railwayman who worked on steam engines then drove electric trains and later was a train driving instructor.

David Rose's working career has been with local newspapers. He continues to be a local journalist, plus being an historian, writer and a collector of all kinds of bygones.
